Stop & Shop workers go out on strike in Boston and throughout the region.
April 11, 2019
Some 31,000 employees in 240 stores in Massachusetts, Connecticut, and Rhode Island strike to protest the company’s attempt to increase their health care costs and decrease their pensions and overtime pay. Strikers at the South Bay Center store are joined by Mayor Marty Walsh, former vice president Joe Biden, and state treasurer Deb Goldberg, whose family once owned what is now the largest supermarket chain in New England, on April 18, 2019. Employees return to work after an agreement is reached on April 22, 2019.
